Hello everyone,

I'm a senior in undergrad who has always been interested in the health field, but didn't realize that pharmacy was something that interested me until recently. From what I've gathered looking around here, it looks like it's getting too late to apply for matriculation next fall (and, since I'll be taking pre-reqs right up til then, it probably wouldn't be the best decision). I'll be graduating in May with degrees in Psychology and Pre-Med, plus a minor in Chemistry. My GPA should be around a 3.8.

I guess what I'm asking here is am I right in thinking I should wait a year to apply? And what exactly are my chances of getting into a program? Also, how strict are the pre-reqs as far as AP credit and such go (I have AP credit in Calc)?

Your GPA sounds solid, so keep up the good work. Plus, getting your bachelor's should make you a more competitive applicant. Taking a year off won't hurt you - in fact, it could give you time to get some volunteer work/pharmacy experience under your belt, which will boost your application. Also, do some research on schools and think about where you might like to apply next year - you'll most likely have to take the PCAT. I would recommend taking the PCAT maybe next June, so you'll have plenty of time to study, and then you can spend the summer applying early and hopefully not worrying about having to take the PCAT again. But if you had to, you could retake it in August or October. This board is full of information, so be sure to check out the sticky threads and do some searches, and you should find a lot of answers! Whether or not a school will accept AP credit depends on their individual policy. It seemed common that schools don't accept AP credit in the sciences, so likely bio, chem, and physics are out. However, other AP credit they accepted. I used my AP Calc score for my applications.

I contacted some schools and as long as you hit a 4-5 on the APs for like Calc, English, and History they will accept them. You will just need to provide them a copy of your score.
