Hi Guys! I just had a couple questions and wanted to get some more opinions

I submitted an article about my personal experiences with healthcare and what motivated me to go into medicine to a prominent physician group (something like ACEP). It's for their newsletter. If they choose to run it, would that add anything to my application? I know its not of the same caliber as a publication, which is why I wanted some more opinions.

Also, I was going to volunteer at the free clinic to get some medical volunteering experience. However, they're currently backed up with many applicants, and it would be a while before I heard anything. In my research group, we run HIV testing daily. Would doing voluntary HIV testing be sufficient to count as medical volunteering? I'm thinking yes, but I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the newsletter thing--maybe if you were writing regularly for them it would be something.

As for the HIV testing, do you actually collect samples from the volunteers yourself? Do you actually interact with them, rather than watching someone else do it? If so, then yes, it counts as clinical (though be sure to explain exactly what you did on your app). As LizzyM puts it, if you can smell the patients, it's clinical 🙂
