So my first question is, if you have taken classes at more than 1 college/university, how do you calculate your combined GPA? Do you just average them? Also, if one school was on the quarter system (and the other on semesters), how would you do this?? I'm guessing you would just convert one to the other but I don't want to make any assumptions.

Also, I know most schools do not accept any grade below a C especially in prereq classes. I have a C- in from a bio class freshman year. Because it is a bio class does it automatically count as a prereq (even if I have enough hours from other biology courses to fulfill the required number)??

I hope those questions made sense. Thanks in advance.

Convert quarter hours to semsester hours. Set up a spreadsheet of all your classes, the semester hours, and the numerical GPA. Multiply grade value * credit hours. Add all together and divide by total credit hours. That is the overall GPA.

As long as the bio class isn't a specific pre-req, then you don't have to use it as one. IE if a school requires upper level microbiology and you took Microbiology 300 and Medical Microbiology 320 (and the school accepts both for micro) you can put in whichever you like.

Some schools are more specific than others. If the school requires 2 semesters of intro bio, and you have only 2 semesters of 100 level bio, that might be problematic.

Great, thanks for your help. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) know how it works on the VMCAS application? Like if school X only looks at your Pre-req GPA will they calculate this on their own?? Since the VMCAS app only asks for your overall GPA (I think)??

you enter all your post secondary courses with hours and gpa into VMCAS. the schools then calculate what they need based on that. You get to designate some stuff for pre-reqs (ie lower level bios if you have multiples.)
