Which really captured retail pharmacy... "I didn't go to school all my life to sell popcorn", when a pharmacist in London was asked "where's the popcorn and food section?". Apparently pharmacy is different over there, pharmacists just do pharmacy, and meds are less costly for the patients. I''m sure it has its drawbacks too, but I think it's just a matter of budgeting of taxes on a National level. They pay less in taxes and get healthcare at a lesser cost.

hehe, he said, "I didn't have all that schooling to sell detergent."

But yes, Sicko is a great movie. A bit depressing, but a great movie.

ahh detergent, how could I forget. Guess popcorn's still fair game! 😀

Yeah, it was saddening seeing the struggle that some folks have to go through to get the services they thought would be there for them if they ever became ill.

I especially enjoyed watching Moore debunk all the myths about universal health coverage - waiting lists and compromised lifestyle due to out of control taxation.

I appreciated his point of saying that a less educated society saddled with debt is easier to control. Painful, but true.

It was a lot better than his previous attempts. His last one was just ******ed. It has is limitations, but it's mostly solid - especially the first half of the movie. As Engels said, Profit is by definition the exploitation and devaluation of another man's labor. That translates well to health insurance. These companies are not needed at all. They add little to no value to the equation versus what a single-payer would add to the equation. As Moore pointed out, the government does not seek profit, it seeks the protection of its citizenry. It would do the same thing for cheaper and nefarious refusals of service due to profit motive would be eliminated. It's tough to argue against him.

I disagree. After reading the first 5 posts, I think I might be able to find better serious discussion at a psych ward.

Like this gem:

Your statements speaks for itself; as usual, you show you know nothing of the healthcare system. Moore is a fcuking idiot, like you. You want politicians controlling healthcare? Do you know what rationing is? Do you know how long it takes to get an MRI or CT in Canada compared with the US?

You want to destroy the US healthcare system so the 15% of the population who doesn't have health care will have it; nice job, ******.

How can anyone honestly take a guy with that much hostility and hatred towards people that just simply disagree with him seriously? That's why I like to discuss this sort of thing with people that aren't on a politics forum looking to just fight. Nothing good ever comes out of liberals and conservatives bitching at each other.

Heh, I was about to say it's so nice to finally see people who don't loathe Moore with every fiber of their being.

My first career was in broadcasting, and I developed an appreciation for propaganda. Nobody wants to watch a boring documentary, even if it's important. Biased or not, you can't deny Moore's an excellent filmmaker. I haven't seen Sicko yet, but I definitely will.

Not to stick up for this guy but.... If you want something to get really screwed up let the government get involoved. Take a look at Medicare Part D (isater) for a great example.

There is no doubt the system is broke and needs to be changed.

If that's your opinion, great, that isn't sticking up for him. It's just that whole ilk of people that go online to debate a political ideology rather than actually looking at individual problems objectively that piss me off.

I don't think our healthcare system will resemble any of those other systems because we are a greedy lazy nation. Our healthcare providers all want to get paid top dollar for their work. Some MD's would not be as content with living comfortably on 200k as the doctor from the film. If we had a system set up where the patient could get 3 months off with pay for medical reasons, people would be abusing the system left and right. I have seen far too many patients go through the drive thru, in navigators "sittin on dubs", that have no copay because the are on welfare and Medicare.

I like at the end how he said he sent the 12 grand anonymously.....Kinda defeats the purpose if you put it in your film.

I always hear how doctors would get the screw job salary-wise from NHC, but does anyone have a clue as to how NHC would affect our future salaries vs. the current privatized system?

Would less profit in private companies' hands eventually trickle down to our salaries? I'm thinking it would...
