a interesting question:
How many students actually took the test in this period May18-June 30 in USA?
ten thousand right? more or less

question 2
normally how many students take the test, out of this period in USA?

what is the point?

i think his/her point is:
if this is the normal load of 'Steppers' in this time period - why are they taking so long THIS year and not in past years? (if that is true)

Answer:
who knows, and who will care in a few more days? - no one

Last year there were about 19.5k USA and Canadian students who took the exam. I'd have to wager that more than 10k of those took it in the time span you mentioned. How many do you know that didn't? There were about 20.6k FMGs who also took the test, but they seem to take it more evenly througout the year. There is no doubt the test load is much higher.

I think the question is; what do they really do to grade the tests? It better be more than just grade the questions we took, because that would only take seconds. The website says something about necessary changes to the item test pool. My guess is that they are reviewing the questions, and then possibly throwing some out, reevaluating the difficulty of others, etc.

BTW - Why is everyone so curmudgeonly here? If third year has already destroyed your spirits this will be a VERY long year.

that barely qualifies as a question...coulda just asked" why is it taking so long this year to report scores if the number of people taking it are the same?" or you could have asked " have the number of people takin the step 1 this year increased dramatically for the NBME to take this long?"
worst question of all time
