A list of different PTSD treatments

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Welp...according to my inbox there's a new 'VA approved holistic healing treatment' (complete with smartphone app) that has been 'praised in CNN, Cosmo, Women's Health, Psychology Today, and many more [souces]'

You guessed it... "Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique)"

Yeah...I'll get right on that.

Ohhhh no. EFT has NO empirical support.

Same could probably be said for Healing Touch, no? And that also seems to be popular.

Pay to train someone in sham/placebo treatment? Sure! Hire more staff to deliver evidence-based therapies? Nope!

Good point. We could even just use some MH case management staff but, nope, we gotta focus time/resources on jedi-approved tapping/attunement spells to align chakras and holistic drum circles rituals to summon the Gods of Holism.

Jumping in to add Imagery Rehearsal Therapy for trauma-related nightmares and Warrior Renew for MST

This was not the original purpose of my thread but I have slightly different question for those in the know. What is up with Stellate Ganglion Block?

I found a successful RCT from JAMA Psychiatry (Effect of Stellate Ganglion Block on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms) that also discusses a study that did not show a significant difference compared to placebo. Is anyone more intimately familiar? More importantly, is this solely as a global arousal reducer? This would not have much effect on other important significant PTSD problems (e.g., re-experiencing, avoidance)?

TIA

Reading through this resurrected thread I see no one mentioned a local masters level favorite Lifespan Integration - Lifespan Integration if you thought EMDR had too broad of an evidence base and was too cheap besides and you're like "ugh, I hate science but love baby dolls." LI might be the PTSD treatment for you! Realistic and creepy baby dolls are an additional charge over the weekly consultation that you will have for the duration of your natural life and the expensive start-up training.

Also @DynamicDidactic I'm curious to know about Ganglion Blocks as well. I'm rotating through the PTSD clinical team on a VA internship and while it's not offered in our system we see a fair few vets from other VA systems that have had this procedure done. I do wonder if the fact that we're seeing them indicates it hasn't been all that effective at treating their PTSD.

I always think of Emotion-focused Therapy (EFT) when I see EFT which has general research support (not for PTSD specifically, though).

I would prefer that this approach not be tarnished by or confused with the tapping technique. Emotion-focused therapy came first! 😉
