  1. Pre-Podiatry
I just recently became interested in podiatry (my mind was set on dentistry before)...now i am totally convinced that i want to be a dpm...so i plan on applying for fall 2008, but i'm taking my mcats in sept...should i be taking them earlier or is that test date fine? i should start applying now for the class of 2012 rite? i'm just a little confused b/c after reading some of the posts, some people said they sent their apps in this year and got interviewed and were accepted but i dont know if its for the class of 2011 or 2012....so if i send my apps in by mid-sept, am i safe or do i have no chance? (sorry if this sounds confusing...im just getting reallllly worried now🙁)

As far as I know, applications for the 2012 class has not started yet, and probably wont for a few months. NY has a January term which may begin accepting applications soon.

Taking your MCAT in Sept 2007 is plenty of time for the 2012 application cycle. 👍 good luck.

I sent my app in March of this year i think and i got an interview request the same day from one school and 2 days later from another. i was accepted for this year (class of 2011) so if ya take the mccat in september you'll be just fine for the class of 2012. i'm almost positive its too late for 2011 but don't quote me on that

If you are applying for the class of 2012, then the earliest you can apply to pod schools is the beginning of September. I believe most schools start interviewing in late September and early October.

It takes a month for your MCAT scores to be released so around October 8th or 9th you will be set. I am pretty positive you can apply to pod schools and just write on the application when the scores will be released.

Good luck with everything. I will be applying for the class of 2012 as well.

thankss a lot guys....so lets say im not satisfied with my september scores, that means i can take the mcat again in like january or even april and still have a good chance of getting into schools?

Remember the MCAT is given about 20+ times a year now. When I took it in August 2006, it was just twice a year. So you would still be okay for the 2012 class if you decided to retake it in January. But you want to have your file as complete as possible so that the admission committee can make a quick decision.

If your scores are pretty good when you take it in Sept., you may not have to worry about retaking. Stay positive! 😀

There are schools that take much later in the cycle b/c they have large classes which many times they have difficulty filling. The more competitive schools have been full since late winter/early spring.

If you want to have your choice of schools than applying early is the best thing to do. Good luck next year.

I can say from experience that I took my MCATs in January 2007, and then another time the following April, while also applying to the fall semester of 2007 for the class of 2011 in April. I ended up just using my test scores from January, lol (I just didn't turn in my April test scores cos it didn't come out as well as my January results). But yeah, they will let you take it in April if you really really didn't like the first outcome, just make sure you tell them and make SURE you send it to them.

But I wouldn't recommend that- it was stressful, between MCATs and interviews and thinking about turning in my MCATs to all the schools while studying for finals, all at the same time. Take it in September, and if you're not happy, take it again in January. good luck on everything, you'll do fine 🙂
