What are your ultimate goals as a practicing Podiatrist? Open your own practice? Buy an existing practice? Look for a job? Why Podiatry vs. Dentistry or Osteopathic school?
Thanks for your replies.

I heard it's because it's a hidden gem within medicine. A nice work life balance.

Most wanted to be a doctor/surgeon and did not get into allopathic/osteopathic medical schools.

Most entering podiatry school want a job. It is often harder than one expects to find a good job in a good location.

My goal was to get a profession that was high paying and not a lot of people wanted to do it.

I was never interested in going to medical school.

So far I accomplished my goals. I do much better than the salaries discussed on this forum and I actually enjoy what I do. Very pleased with it so far.

And heres the crazy part too: I work private practice for another podiatrist.

Dentistry is basically manual labor. I can't imagine how bad that is for your back.

I interviewed at DO schools. Hindsight is 20/20, wouldn't have minded attending and doing something like FM, IM, or psych.

I wanted a medical profession that works with my hands, so IM/FM was out for me, sure they do procedures but the day in day out stuff is computer work. CRNA may make more money than podiatry, but I can’t imagine how bored with my job I would be putting people to sleep for a living. Dentistry seemed like doing the same thing over and over with no variety to keep things interesting, and nowadays general dentistry are doing continuing education to learn to do implants that they don’t teach in school just to keep up with the competition, insurance for dentistry isn’t great. Podiatry was a good fit for me, no regrets.
