Gents,
It's interesting, because when I watch surgical videos online (medlineplus and orlive etc.) they invariably are using anesthesiologists. I know this is a very small sample size, and could be considered "anecdotal", but I've only seen one situation in which the surgeon introduced a nurse anesthetist. Every other video I've watched has had "Dr. xyz, our anesthesiologist" doing the case. I've watched a fair amount of these videos.....lol
The question seems to be, is this coincidence? Again, I've only seen 1 (poss. 2 videos), out of 30 or so, in which they were using a CRNA. All the rest have had an MD/DO, and were introduced as such.
Or, might this be done purposely since these videos are often catered to the general, lay, public? In which case, they'd want to put their best foot forward, so to speak. Because, these numbers are far greater than what I've heard the ratio of MD/DO only groups to team models represent in reality. Also, it's not as if the MD/DO's are there, conveniently, upon intubation etc., because many of these introductions are quite informal and occur mid-case etc.
Any thoughts?
