I have a 3.33 cum GPA and a 3.55 sGPA with a 24 MCAT. Am I totally in the dark? I know my MCAT score is on the lower side but I'm worried about having to retake the exam since it's a new one and I have no knowledge of sociology or biochemistry since I'm an Economics major and only took the core courses/pre-reqs for medical school in post-bacc. I've posted a thread for What Are My Chances and only had one person respond and I need advice. Please shed some light!

That one person was goro the most qualified to answer that question.

Anyway consider newer schools

Burrel
Pcom ga
kycom
lucom
cusom
acom
wvsom
vcom (all)
lecom(all)
touro nv/middletown
pnw
rvu
mucom
wcu
lmu dcom

The list doctor synthesis gave looks good. I would take out the lecoms (unless you are from the area), touro-nv (need a 25 MCAT), and RVU (it is really competitive). You can add ATSU-soma and a couple of reach schools in the midwest.

Your current chances are best with the newest schools. Skip CCOM, Touro-NY and CA, AZCOM, KCUMB and Western. I can't recommend LUCOM.

Thank you all! I will definitely look into these schools

Yeah, your 24 MCAT can definitely still get you in. Apply as early as possible and to as many schools as possible that don't have MCAT/GPA cutoffs that will autoreject you

Why would you say this? The OP's numbers are ok for LECOM if they apply early

Well I just received secondaries this morning for both LECOMs and Touro COM NY and sending them in even if it's a slim chance. A slim chance is still a chance for me.

This cycle it's to late most likely.

At this point you're just throwing away money. I highly doubt that turning into secondaries will result in an interview and if you don't get in this cycle then you will most likely be a re-applicant next cycle, diminishing your chances at those two schools

To be honest, you might as well try. If anything, you will figure out the process and be way better prepared for next cycle. $300-$1000 is worth spending to try and start a year sooner IMO. I say this because if you already did the primary application I think filling out secondaries is pennies on the dollar at this point.

I wouldn't because I would not want to write a new PS.

I think she already did ACOMAS because she already has secondaries- no? So might as well apply everywhere
Yes she already did the primary, but at this point, if she goes ahead with the secondaries, then she will have the dreaded "re-application" status for next cycle. Yes, there is a small possibility that she gets in this cycle, but at this point, its INCREDIBLY low. I would suggest holding out and waiting till next cycle.

true - I don't know just being hypothetical I almost applied last year around this time but decided not to- I guess I don't know what troubles to expect as a reapplicant

Yea I mean I myself am a re-applicant, but according to certain administrators on the admissions committee, they will generally ask, what improvements did you have from last years application. For someone to apply this late, they basically have to have INCREDIBLY stellar stats, and for the schools that OP is about to turn in secondaries for, they are either a little below average, or way below average (MCAT wise). I don't want to be pessimistic or negative, but at this point in time, OP almost has no chance of getting into medical school if they are just turning in secondaries. I would LOVE to be proven wrong, but I am just trying to think logically with how late in the cycle it is. I know as a re-applicant, many applications asked what improvements I have made in regards to my application. From this time point to July of this year, there is not much that can be done in terms of improvement, unless the OP has taken many classes this semester, plans on taking the MCAT, or got published for their research.

Apply early, with good PS, interview well and you should have a decent shot

I would (and did the same, to both LECOMs and Touro NY)

however, you're odds of hearing back from them after they receive your $$ is slim. Lecoms don't mind throwing out 2ndaries. I think I'm still waiting to hear back from Lecom-e, and I'm a 1st year elsewhere.
