Hi all!!!

Just had a few questions for current Columbia Univ. Postbacc students. How hard is it to get into Columbia's Postbacc program? I have a 3.5 undergrad gpa, I have not taken the MCAT, and I took a side course (organic chemistry) at CUNY Hunter(not my undergrad) in Fall 2007 and received an F. But I have stellar community service & extracurricular activities. What are my chances?

Hi all!!!

From what I understand, it's not as difficult as the top-tier postbacs, but the attrition level is very high. Apparently a large percentage of the students drop out before completion of the program. If you took orgo, does that mean you also took gen chem? I don't know what the circumstances of that F are, but you'll probably have to explain it -- also, if you've done gen chem AND orgo, you may have taken too many prereqs to be eligible.

Thanks Newmans Own....

No, I haven't taken general chem. The F was a result of my efforts to advise myself with the CUNY Hunter postbacc program. I mistakenly took a org chem class geared at Nursing Students instead of Premedical. Now I'm trying to right my wrong with Columbia Univ.

Hi aspiringmed,

I think you should be alright with your GPA. Try giving a call to someone in their office. People there are generally fairly helpful. I'm finishing up the program now so feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.
