I'm finalizing my essays for my amcas. Which is more correct? I am pursuing A md/phd or AN md/phd? I know this may sound silly, but I'm not sure. thank you!

I've agonized over this as well.

My solutions:
1) Word my essays so this doesn't come up. I have been very successful at this.
2) Many schools write "an MD/PhD". It also flows off the tongue. Therefore, when I find myself with no other recourse, I write "an MD/PhD".

You should always preface letters that sound like they start with a vowel, (M= em) with an. Therefore, I am pursuing an MD/PhD, not a JD. Of course if we switched things up I guess we could call it a Phd/MD...

An, for the reason Picklesali gave.

BTW, Pick, your profile looks pretty d*** competitive to me.

It's "an"

if it were spelled out dictionary spellings of these abbreviations:

emm dee / PhD

starts witha vowel, must be an.

WHABAM!
