A more formal way to say "shadowing student"?

When you are asked to put your position title for your shadowing experience, what do you put? "Shadowing student" sounds informal to me, and "intern" does not really sound right.

Highly doubt it.

If anything a person shadowing should actually be called, a dental intruder or a inexperienced supervisor, since they just stand there and stare at the whole dental patient showdown.

You can say 'I tooth guarded'... basically made sure nothing crazy fell into a patient mouth.
Or
'I tooth dandruffed'... staring down at a patient poses the risk of flaking some dandruff into their mouth and teeth.
