I suspect much more stress is caused by poor pay, pointless rules & paperwork required by hospital administration, JCAHO, & nursing boards, and incompetent mid-level providers.

I agree. The worst days I can recall at work have involved a rude, disrespectful, know-it-all midlevel, nurse or technician. There are some bad attendings but they are a minority compared to the support staff who crosses the line everyday.
