A new HIGH in retail

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've posted it before...Costco has to be the best place for a pharmacist...I ever get a job there I am never leaving....
You know, I remember your Costco post. If you like it so much, why not send in your resume? They may not be hiring, but at least they should consider you when a spot opens. Besides, the worst they can say is "Sorry, we are not hiring."

In New Rochelle NY that's about the same as 100,000.00 in Philly and less in other parts of the Country. Even at $150,000.00 per year who can afford to live here.
that's why you live 1/2 an hour away and buy a house for 1/3 the price.

Even 1/2 hour away the prices are out of this world.... You would have to go an hour away and who wants that commute each day? You have to look at net dollars not gross dollars... Or you become the kind of person who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Unlike CVS that seems to pop up every where like a bad rash there are only one or two Costcos in any town. It is very hard to get a job with them. They have good hours and they pay their techs well. I think they have a waiting list of pharmacists wanting a job.

$1,045,000
4 Bd, 3 Ba
2600 sq.ft.

Nice......2600 square feet for a cool 1 mil. Yeah right....$150,000 wouldn't get you a card board box on the street in this town......

I live a whole 45 minutes away (for the last 10 years) and know plenty of areas that would be well suited for commuting. At the CVS I used to work at the pharmacist commuted well over an hour each day and didn't seem to mind it too much. It's all a matter of "Is it worth it?" and the answer is different for each person.

Houses are cheap and affordable nearby. . . the commute might be half an hour to an hour though but you can easily get the same for 400-500k range. Plus you are forgetting that most tri-metropolitians area are expensive for a reason. Good access to most services, shopping, and real estate prices that always goes up even in our economy right now. This means if you do buy an expensive house, the property of the house will remain high and keep on rising.

$1 million for a 4 br, 3 ba house! 😱

I'm staying in the Midwest, where things are cheap and gas is currently $3.38/gallon. Viva SW Missouri!

You'd be looking at the same gas prices in NJ, it has some of the lowest in the country 😀

Regardless of the location, 148k is awesome.

OK Let's compare:

New Rochelle NY:

  • $148,000.00 income
  • 4 bedroom house 1,200,000.00
  • State Income Tax over 6%
Suburban Philadelphia:

  • Salary $125,000.00
  • 4 bedroom house 500,000.00
  • State Income Tax less than 3%
Look at rural PA near Pittsburgh and you get an even greater disparity.

Don't get fooled by the numbers. It's your net pay you spend, not your gross. Do you think Target is paying that much in Shaboigon? They are paying that much to make up for the cost of living there which is extremely high.

And then you walk into the store and 70 baskets are sitting on your counter in the morning, welcoming you...

I agree with Old Timer- don't get fooled by the #'s.

once again. .. houses near that location is around 500k. If you are looking exclusively at luxarious neighborhoods, of courses the houses is 1.2 mil. The only difference is that in greater new york area versus pittsburgh, property value has historically gone up.

PS I live 30 minutes away in a nice 3 bedroom 2 story house with all amendities for 2k monthly rent. My rent is 600 but my own bathroom has its own jettub, 2+ walk in closets, etc.

Forget about the 148k...Lets talk about closed at 7pm, Sundays and Holidays...Sounds like the retail pharmacy version of heaven!!!!!

the membership isnt bad either. friends would love u for that executive membership

Not impressed. Check out pharmacies in South Texas, namely McCallen TX. 75-100 bucks an hour, that translates to ~150k/year. Oh yeah, the real estate is dirt cheap!

Do you mean McAllen, Texas?

Ya, maybe for short term contracts, I doubt that is regular hourly wage.
