ok, so we're all familiar with the whole 1-week-secondary/2-week-LOR deadlines (and how to argue for/against these policies), but i have a genuine question. my LORs were "due" yesterday (8/10). my pre-med advisor sent them out on (8/6), and as of today (8/11), my NU status page still says that my letters are not in. its probable that my letters are already there and just haven't been processed by the staff of the admissions dept. yet, but i was wondering: does my application get "disqualified" or something stupid like that just because my letters aren't processed by their deadline (even though they had been sent in plenty of time and were likely at NU all along)??? help! :scared:

thanks,
sd

Let the flaming begin!

No, but seriously, I would hope that they mark when the packets come in, so even if they are not processed, they still know they are received by the deadline. Also, I would hope that you could argue that the postmark is like the 6th, so it had to have been there in time. If they don;t budge a little in this case, it would be just ridiculous.

I am of course speaking hypothetically, but I am sure someone around here has an idea...or better yet, just give them a call tomorrow.

That website takes forever to get updated, don't worry about it. If you can't help but worry, then give them a call.

i suppose its not a life-and-death situation, i was just hoping that someone here on SDN had some personal experience with this. i'd like to keep the pestering phone calls to admissions offices as a last resort. 😀

I tried getting an extension on the secondary, but no luck. I, however, was granted an extension on the committe letter until sept 1 (my previous deadline was aug 10 too). The reason I open with this is becasue my pre-health advisor is out of town until 18th (I didnt tell NW this) and they gave me the extension. Therefore, I am assuming that they are pretty forgiving with the deadline on the LORs.

I'm in the same boat. My LOR were sent on 8/5 and it still says that they have not been received (its already 8/11). I'm sure they are pretty lenient with the deadline, 2 weeks is a quick turnaround, especially for letters of recommendation.

Who knows? Because of all the people asking extensions, maybe they learned that LORs are difficult to turn around in two weeks, and might change their policy for next year... 🙄
