:scared: i have an urgent question
which pleural effusion types are associated with high glucose level in pleural fluid???
(except infusothorax and peritoneal dialysis)
and how does the pleural fluid glucose levels change in diabetes?

maybe I'm just an idiot and haven't been exposed to this yet.

but I've never heard of this before....

exudative pleural effusion secondary to malignany may have LOW glucose (<3.3mmol/l) if the tumour burden is high ... not sure when it'd be high though

chylothorax you get high TGs...

high glucose pleural effusions are seen in rheumatoid arthritis, if im not mistaken.
RA --> VERY low glucose usually. Nothing that I can think of, besides lab. error, causes increased glucose.

(from Up-to-Date...The lowest glucose concentrations are found in rheumatoid pleurisy and empyema, with glucose being undetectable in some cases)
