If any of you are in or going to be visiting SF in the years ahead & have some time...I'd recommend a trip to the De Young Museum. It just reopened after years of renovation. Its in Golden Gate Park & has an observation deck on the 9th floor. We went today and when I got out of the elevator the first thing I saw out the HUGE windows was UCSF!!!! Oh my gosh...it was beautiful. You have a 360 degree view so can see downtown, Golden Gate bridge, ocean & the rest of the park - it rivals the view from the 11th floor of MSW (you UCSF folks know that view!). Anyway...this alone was worth the trip, but the artwork was great too. We ended it with dinner & a sunset @ the Cliff House. Winter in SF is beautiful!

Is winter in SF really that beautiful? I heard it was just rainy. lol.

I would also recommend going to Twin Peaks for a view of the bay area. Its very beautiful! Hard to believe we didn't know about this spot until we moved close by.

I recommend a trip to whole foods.
God I miss it!

That sounds wonderful!
I need a vacation.
I won't get one until this summer, when we are going to Niagara Falls!

I thought I'd chime in. My in-laws lived in Berkeley for three years and we got to visit them numerous times. I love San Fran and the whole Bay Area.

The California Academy of Sciences Natural History Museum and Aquarium at Golden Gate Park is also really cool (I think that it's just a very short walk from the De Young). I'm a sucker for penguins and they have a bunch of different species.

For another awesome view of the bay, try to get to the UC Berkeley campus. You can go up to the top of the bell tower (it costs $2-3). I loved the view - not only of the water but also of all the architecture. Plus, on certain days they actually have someone inside playing the bells (it's not just programmed by computer). When we went we got to hear a 10+ minute song - the guy was amazing (even if it was REALLY loud).

The other thing that I would suggest if you ever make it to the SF and can drive a bit is to check out the Rosicrucian museum in San Jose. The Rosicrucians are a society (they say they're not a religion/cult 🙄 ) that study metaphysics and the "mastery of life." What makes the museum really cool is that it has the largest collection of egyptian artifacts in the Western U.S. There are mummies, sarcophogi, and lots of other things from ancient egypt. It really was a neat side trip when we were visting a friend in Santa Clara. You can get more info at http://www.egyptianmuseum.org/
