Regarding to interpretation of this statement....

"When a pharmacy utilizes an electronic record keeping system for refill documentation of official New York State prescriptions or out-of-state written prescriptions for Schedule III, IV (nonbenzodiazepines) or V controlled substances, the dispensing pharmacist shall document that the refill information entered into the computer has been reviewed and is correct by manually signing:

  • A hard copy printout of each day’s controlled substance prescription refill data,
  • or;
  • A bound log book containing a statement that the refill information entered into the computer that day has been reviewed and is correct as shown. "
Does the statement mean that for electronic controlled Rx refills, a pharmacy can just print out a daily log for all CIII-CV refills by the end of the day and sign it? Because in the independent I work at, we still print out every electronic controlled Rx and put a refill sticker behind the prescription every time when there is a refill. Thank you.

All you have to do is sign a bound log book each day. Don't waste your time pulling scripts for refills. Times have changed!

Just sign logs.

Honestly, these rules are so outdated. What's the point of even signing logs? Electronic credentials to sign each prescription should just be the standard. Signing the NY log is always a joke.
