Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I have a quick question regarding my current GPA. My current overall GPA is 3.35, Sci GPA 3.3 🙁(which is below the average GPA for most dental schools). I'll take the DAT on May 30th. My question is: How well do I need to do on my DAT to get some interviews? Is 20's across the board good enough? And I'm planning to apply to at least 20 schools. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

20's in Academic average is a good goal. Don't kill yourself if you don't get 20's in all the sections. Your situation is not as bad as you make it out to be. You can always take additional courses to have your GPA inch up since you are not that far off.

Although your GPA is below average, it's not at all bad. Getting 20's across the board (or at least a 20 AA) will definately be good enough to get accepted, especially if you apply to 20+ schools.

thanks guys for the feedbacks. I'll graduate this summer. So I only have one quarter left (Spring). Even If I get straight A's this Spring quarter, it can only bring up my GPA from 3.35 to 3.42 which is not much. Should I take summer school to bring up my GPA or is it too late? B/c summer school ends at the end of August, by then it is probably too late to submit summer school grades.
Thanks guys!

That's why your situation isn't that bad. All you need is to nudge your GPA up. In your case a few extra points up in the GPA can make a significant difference.
If you don't get in you have a whole extra year to boost your GPA, you'd be close to 3.5. But at this point DAT is critical. A stellar score in the DAT can save you from the hassle of doing this.

Your admission depends on your DAT performance, so dedicate your summer to that, not raising your GPA a small amount. If you're taking the DAT May 30th, are you going to be ready for it considering you're taking spring classes? You can push that date back to late July and it won't make your application late. You really need to spend several solid weeks just preparing for the exam. 2 months would be great. I can't stress enough how much easier your application experience will be if you can get 20+. My GPA isn't too far off from yours, but my DAT went very good and I found myself being able to be choosy about where I'm going.

@op

i am sure you already know this, but the higher you score on DAT the higher your chances are to get in.

if you are applying in may the schools probably wont see your spring grades.

just concentrate on dat and score as high as possible.

also make sure you know what you are doing when applying.

you think a 3.3 is a crappy GPA? wow

Wouldn't the schools also look at your personal statement and LOR's. I would wright an amazing personal statement and get LOR's from Proffs that would make you seem tremendous when applying. I have a similar GPA and I don't think its that bad. Just apply to as many schools as you can and if its still eating at the back of your head, re-take the DAT, but there are more things than just grades and the DAT that will get you in.

theres nothing wrong with a 3.3 unless you bomb on the dat. if you get pretty good dat scores, just apply very early in the cycle. if you dont get in, take a couple of science classes the next semester, and reapply early again.

thanks every one for your good words! I really appreciate it. I guess all I can do now is to concentrate on the DAT and aim for 20's.
