A question about VA Hospitals..

Is there a reason why many of the externships push students through at least one VA hospital? Do VA Hospitals offer wider and more flexible opportunities for ODs than other types of hospitals?

Usually a great opportunity for exposure to pathology.
Hospital setting allows for interaction with other specialties.
May allow for advanced procedures that can't be performed in other out-patient settings (depends on the state you're in).
There are residency options at VA Hospitals - this gives you a "taste"
