How do you use UW? in tutor mode? Or do you do random, timed (to simulate the real test, and therefore get a more "accurate"/"realistic" %-age)?

I would guess that about 80% of people that post in the USMLE experience thread that give their overall uworld average also state the manner in which they did the exams.

From my experience reading here, most people are doing random. 50/50 or so timed/untimed. Tutor is the same as untimed unless you are changing your answers...

also, the better question would be....are these people that post their ridiculous 78% averages including the fact that they went through the qbank 2 times?

that guy got like a 260 right? I mean come on! We are talking about the USMLE mega masters here.
78% is sick. rad even.

I am at about 60-65% normally. I am not super gunnerish on this test though...

anyhow, the point of my post above was to respond to the OP that most people do in fact, state how they did the qbank.

cheers 🙂

I think he also studied for like 6 months. I'm sure if a lot of us went to foreign medical schools that didn't require you to take Step 1 before moving on to the clinical years we'd be able to average in the 80% range. I believe he did 10,000+ questions total and I'm sure USMLE World wasn't the first set of questions he used. I'm not knocking on that score obviously, I'm just saying its ridiculous to use it as a comparison

I'm at 74 long term, averaging 78 exactly over the last five hundred.
Can't say I find myself particularly ridiculous.

78% average corresponds to >270 on clinicalreview[dot]com's score predictor. Now I've heard that thing loses predictive value after a certain point based on lack of power since that is obviously at the tail end of the bell curve, but that still puts you in the 99th percentile. That score would also almost always put you well over 30% above the average of any given set of random questions on UW. I'd say thats pretty "ridiculous" but thats just me. I've scored that high on a question set before, but my average is by no means in the 70s overall haha

Yeah, I have an 81% average over the past ~600 questions, and I certainly don't see myself breaking 270. I am hoping for a 260+, but will be happy with a 250+.

the first thing i do before i post my average is add 15% so ppl know how smart I am. 80%

I am in no way indicating that ppl are inflating their averages, but am admitting to doing so (in this post) myself.

Why limit yourself to 15? As long as you are lying you might as well go all out...

i get pissed off when i get 66% or 70% on blocks now that i'm used to getting around 80~

Then i get pissed for getting pissed and not keeping things in perspective

God when will this end :meanie:

I know what you mean. I was getting a good average going, then out of no where I got a 78% and it brought down my average.😡

I feel out of place in medical school.......how to deal... Hey guys, I am just wondering how you guys deal with all the immature people in medical school.I am in my mid twenties and I feel so out of place. Whether it has to do with immature jokes, actions, or even making fun of people (yeah, almost like in gradeschool). I mean I am a bit serious so please tell me if I am overreacting?Heres some examples.our school video records lectures, and upon watching some a certain person feels to the need to flip off the recording 2-3 timesGoing over the pelvic exams/ anatomy all these immature sexual jokes and such are being said and chuckeldA certian short, overweight person is called out loud "hey do you have cushings?? I am sure you do" and persistant teasing of this (and no they are not friends and she is getting her feelings hurt)Now WTF...........are stuff like this normal and approprate??I do not partake in this but then It makes me seem like an outsider becasue i dont find making fun of people to be a good time. What should I do?

You shouldn't do anything because you actually don't have a problem. I have noticed that many people actually go through the maturation process in med school. Then again, other people just don't mature at all. I believe it has to do with the experiences before you entered med school and at the same time your extracurricular formation ( I don't know, family values, academic values, etc.) If patients in X or Y hospital actually had the opportunity to know what goes inside every medical school with some students they will be very picky about their care. All in all, unfortunately, we have to deal with people like this on real life AND on internet forums. I just hope that someday people realize that some of their attitudes might be translated into inappropiate colleague relationships and hence bad care for patients.👎

hah sorry i was just quoting nibbler's old thread complaining about med students lack of maturity. i found it poignant.

Yeah you shouldnt do anything. Those people seem immature.

But you are way off the topic of the thread to discuss your personal problems.
