I searched all over for the answer to this question, but i could not find one. Anways, is there a time limit on the validity of a LOR? I've heard that its valid only for a year and you need to update it after that which is next to impossible. THis is importnat for me seeing as my original plan was to go for an elective next year and match only in 2013.

There is no official or formal expiration date.

However, programs will wonder why you can't get a LOR that is more recent if its more than a year or two old. If you are getting an LOR in 2011, applying in 2012 for the 2013 match, that is fine.
