Maybe this is a dumb question, but..
I noticed at many dental school web pages it is stated that completed AADSAS applications must be "on file" by November/December 1 or something to that effect. Does this mean the application must be processed by that time, or only that the AADSAS must have recieved your application?

I really wish the AADSAS would give a more realistic estimate on how long it takes for them to process applications. 👎

I could be wrong but it is my understanding from the admissions departments that I have spoken with that the school must recieve your application in their admissions office before thier deadline date, i.e. have it in their grubby little hands not just submitted to AADSAS.

That is a good question.

I have looked around and some websites state that you must have applied to the AADSAS before their deadline and other don't say. I would check with individual schools. But some schools will go a bit further and say that if they recommend you have your application "to them" before Labor day. (As in OHSU's case) Most schools don't have this early of a rec., and each one is different. I think OHSU's cut off is in Nov or something so that is why the strongly encourage an early app. When in doubt it is always better to call them and find out if their website doesn't directly say.

I called OHSU a few days ago and asked them about this matter. The admission lady ( I think her name is Jennifer) said that they want to have the application in their office by Nov 1. However, because of AADSAS slow pace, they will accept application that was submitted to AADSAS before Nov 1. Again, somebody should recheck this matter because unless everyone get the same answer from the school, I would not trust this answer. Technically, when OHSU says Nov 1 for AADSAS deadline means that they must receive it in their office by that date. The leniency and the extension is not always the case or for every year, and therefore, if you are worried about the deadline, call the school for yourself is the best solution.

AADSAS is a horrible service and i don't know why the dental schools agree to be their partner. The only positive thing i see is that they put all applicants in a standard universal application format so it cut down the time for dental school. BUT its slow pace outweighs its benefit.

I was just sitting here thinking how much of a rip off AADSAS is compared to the !@$#%$!% service they provide to us. Here's some math that has me pretty cheezed.

rough number of applicants------------5000
average cost of AADSAS application-----------------$500

Revenue AADSAS earns for checking your transcripts, a few photocopies of your LOR, and about $10 in postage -----------$2,500,000

And they can't afford to have someone answer the phone or to get applications turned around in under 2 months????. 😡

you're math is right, but if you can find someone that ONLY spent $500 for AADSAS, I'd like to see it. I think the average is going to be a lot higher than that, but your point is well taken and I don't think you would find anyone who could disagree with you.
