Hey guys,

First I just wanted to say thank you for all the advice that's on this forum. I've been a long time lurker and it has paid off! Moving on...

I was recently accepted to a combined MD program and will be starting my first undergrad year next semester. Since I won't be caught up with competing or just filling up my resume with typical pre-med stuff for future admissions processes, I was wondering what are some things I could do with this new found time in college to help me grow as a person or just experience life I guess.

I'm sure I'll end up studying abroad or traveling, but I really want to do something more than that.

Any ideas?

First of all, congrats! As you'll see by perusing this forum, you've saved yourself A LOT of anxiety/panicking/etc.

Since you've already got a seat in your MD program, just take classes you like, complete a major that you truly enjoy, and do something fun! Make sure you keep your grades up so that you don't lose your spot.

Most of these programs I know have a minimum GPA requirement in order to remain in the program.

If this is the case for you, I would definitely take fun, interesting classes that you love and know you can succeed in, in order to build a GPA buffer. Take it easy your first year, so that you don't risk losing that MD spot!

Student government, sports, artistic endeavors, and studying abroad are all things you should look into if you want to diversify your undergraduate experience.

Good luck and congratulations!
