a really stupid question about renal

I'm in the process of relearning renal and am kinda embarrassed to ask this question, so please excuse its basic nature. I'm having a brain block apparently.

Why is it that when you water deprive ECF decreases, ICF increases,? I understand the decrease in ECF for obvious reasons but why all of a sudden an increase in ICF??? 🙁

The OSMOLARITY increases, not volume.

Taken from BRS Physio:

The osmolarity of ECF increases because sweat is hyposmotic.

ECF volume decreases becasue of loss of volume in sweat.

ICF OSMOLARITY increases because water shifts from ICF to ECF

ICF OSMOLARITY increases until it equals ECF OSMOLARITY

ICF volume decreases

Plasma protein concentration increases because of decreased ECF volume

Hematocrit may be expected to increase, but it stays constant because water shifts out of RBCs, decreasing their volume and offsetting the concentrating effect of the decreased ECF volume.
