Hi
I am currently starting my second year of medical school in the university of deberecen in hungary. I am also a US citizen but I have never studied in the us. My plan was to finish 3 years of medical school in debrecen and then try to transfer to a US med school and by that ,save a year instead of the regular US med student whom has to do 4 years collage and another 4 years of med school. I don't really know how to go about doing such a thing and if it is really possible. I would appreciate any advice in the matter.

The other opption I have is to finish 6 years in debrecen and then do the residency in the US but I would really like a US degree and I am also kind of concerned as to how I would be accepted in the US with a degree from debrecen....
what do you think? 😕

I think you have zero chance of transferring to a US med school. I'm not implying your education is somehow worse but Americans are xenophobes and medical curriculla are different everywhere in the world.

If you really wanted a US degree then... why... didnt you get one ? 🙂

Wild,

I hate to see myself agreeing with Purifyer, at least partially, but I agree with the assessment of your chances. (For my reasons see my post on the EE forum at ValueMD.)

BTW, I noticed that you've posted this same question here and at ValueMD at least five times. Generally speaking, you've received the same reply. What makes you think that you'll get a different response?

PS Purifyer, calling the US xenophobic is (IMHO) plain nonsense. The US has one (if not the) most diverse populations on the planet. Your comment does however, square with your multitude of anti-American posts.

I think that getting good scores in both parts of the boards would be easier than getting a transfer. I'm studying in Pecs, and we've had many US citizens here, none of which transferred in an American school, either bc they couldn't or bc it was so difficult that they didn't even try it. Besides, unless you want to go into an ultra competitive residency, your boards scores will be the ultimate standard of your assessment. Not to mention that getting into these residencies is quite difficult even for American graduates from the States.
Foreign born graduates are going by the thousands every year in the States, and leaving lifestyle differences aside, they're absorbed by the American society. That's even more true for you, since you are an American citizen. So, I think that the best thing you can do is get good scores in the boards. If you are good enough to even consider transferring in the States, you should have no difficulty in doing that.

Thank you for your suggestions....
I was wondering if this sort of thing is close to possible ... but I guess that in the end of the day all you need is the right connections no matter where you study .....
I decided on debrecen because it seems like a good a fast way to become a doctor. 6 years and I get a degree without the need of going through too many exams to get accepted.
I assume the best thing to do is stick it out in debrecen and try my luck in 5 more years....

thanks,
wild 😉

Ahh 😉 I should really stop it with all the jibes I guess... It's just so easy and a way to take out my daily stresses on an anonymous third party 🙂
