Hi everyone,

I just want to know if clinical and basic science research count as healthcare related activity? I think basic science would not, but clinical would (???).

Please don't kill me for asking this!

No killing allowed on SDN 😀

It's kind of hard to answer unless we know in what specific app is asking for "healthcare related activity", since the term itself is vague. I'm guessing they mean clinical experience. I suppose if your clinical research involved being close to patients it would qualify. Bench research for chem or bio would be kind of iffy.

I remember someone on SDN saying that "if you are close enough to SMELL your patients, then it counts as a clinical experience". 😀

Most apps specifically ask about research or have opportunities to talk about them. I wouldn't try to double dip, because whatever you call them won't matter much as the reviewer will assign his/her own meanings as appropriate. Just make your best guess. I personally wouldnt consider either to be healthcare related. I think this is intended to be patient contact stuff, but it depends how the app reads.

Clinical research might be if it involved patient contact. Even better if you're doing something that allows physical contact, like, say, phlebotomy, or taking BP.

If you're just tallying data that other people have collected, or simply tablulating by observation (i.e., how many ER patients were there on Friday nights with a full moon) then no, it's not health-care related in my book.

Capeesh?
