I applied this cycle, but didn't do it in the right fashion. I sent AADSAS in late September, believed it got mailed out early October. I took the DAT around that time and scores were official by the time the application was submitted. However, due to my own fault on not realizing how difficult getting quality letters would be, my committee letter didn't get in until 12/15(although the dentist's letter was in in October.)

I realized at this point that it was very late and figured that I would be wasting even more money sending a secondary application fee to every school that I applied too. Of my 9 original schools, I only sent it to GHSU, UF, NYU, and Louisville. GHSU denied me on 12/2, over a week BEFORE my letters got in, so I know that I didn't even a look at my application. It's my state school and the tuition is unbeatable. Louisville also rejected me and I'm not expecting anything from UF.

However, NYU just offered me an interview Friday. I really want to go over spring break and check the school out/gain some experience interviewing, but I am wondering if I should just shrug it off and make sure I get a respectable look from GHSU before I think about taking this much dept on. We are talking a difference of 60k/year. I know I shouldn't take interviews for granted, and I don't want to apply next year and get shot down from everywhere and feel like an idiot for blowing a chance.

Sorry for the huge wall of text, but should I reapply day 1 to give myself a fair shot at all of my options, or just try to take this chance to see if I can get an offer to start next year?

Stats if they matter:

oGPA: 3.73
sGPA: 3.58(although both dropped in the fall, trying to counterbalance the drop this semester)

DAT: 21AA/ 21TS/ 19 PAT

Thanks for any help.

The experience of interviewing might be valuable if you can spare the cash to go. But if you really wouldn't go there if they offered an acceptance, than I'd skip it. The good news is that you have a really solid application ready to go in less than 100 days! I think you haves good shot elsewhere.

thats a tough one.... cause I have a feeling NY is going to accept you (those are solid stats) and in which case, u'll be starting in august and not have to worry about re-applying.

on the other hand, the 240k price tag addition of NY is no small amount... Im gonna agree with jeffity here.... go just to gain experience with this interview process

Can you defer your acceptance to NYU for one year if you get in, then apply again to other schools over the summer? Does anyone know if this is a safe option?

I had similar stats. I got my application in early, had 10 interview invites and 8 acceptances (including NYU). I ended up going to my state school. If you can stand it, I'd wait a year. We don't know all of your stats and all, but if you are well-rounded I would be shocked if you didn't get other offers next year.

I definitely think the biggest problem is that you applied too late. Apply the soonest you can this cycle and you should get quite a few interviews with those stats. Like the others, I would say go to the interview if you have the money to and get the experience from it... who knows you may end up really liking the school. I know the money aspect of NYU is hard to get over, but their clinical program is great! Good luck :luck:

Is it possible for you to transfer? I know not all schools take transfer students but its something to look into. I know a woman who went to BU her first year and transferred to UW her second due to her husband's job relocation.

Something to think about. You could go to NYU your first year so you wouldn't lose a year.

if u end up re-applying, you're gonna need new letters and make sure u ask now.

if u dont want to waste another year, go to the interview and wait for the results.

Regarding to GHSU, they did look at your application and reviewed it. The GHSU ADCOM doesn't need to read your letters to invite u for an interview instead they read your letters after your interview or maybe a few days prior your interview to get to know you better.

Interesting, did not know this. Still, I sent in AADSAS the day before their deadline and was also pushing it on the secondary, so I definitely didn't do myself any favors being early. I'll give the school a call this week to see what they have to say about the weak areas of my application.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm about to talk with my family about the whole situation and go from there.
