Hello!
I was wondering how deep do I have to go on the classification component of the Bio Section. I have the Kaplan Book and before preceding to the discussion of taxonomy it says: Much of the info that follows concerning eukaryotic classification is presented to improve you background in teh features of living things. THE GENERAL TRENDS SHOULD BE UNDERSTOOD, BUTH THE SPECIFIC DETAILS NEED NOT BE MEMORIZED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CLASSIFICATION OF HIGHER VERTEBRATES. Well, that is great and dandy; but, what do I really need to know from the taxonomy section? I've been reading the Schaum's Outlines Biology book and it seems that there is indeed too much information from each kingdom. So.....what do I really need to know about taxonomy?? help please :scared:

My DAT was taken too long ago to remember specifics, but one thing that I recall after taking my DAT was that I wished I knew taxonomy a little bit better. I think it would be great to know the major characteristics, important species, and strange exceptions of the major phyla in the animal kingdom including porifera, cnidarians, nematodes, platyhelminthes, annelids, mollusks, echinoderms, and chordates. At least that's my opinion. Maybe a more recent test taker can offer better, more current advice.

I had about 3 questions on this topic on mine (early august test date). Two were pretty straightforward, but one required some thought. I believe that if you know the general trends of each kingdom and the different phylums of animalia, you should know enough to eliminate enough wrong answers. By general info I mean you should be able to know exactly how the excretory system of annilid and arthropoda differ and which phylum has a true body cavity and which don't for example. It is a lot of info, but I was glad I memorized it.
