Just thought it would be nice to see who all was starting PT school this summer/fall of 2011. Maybe a brief statement of where you are attending and what your plans are to prepare or to just enjoy the break.

I will be attending the University of Central Arkansas beginning August 2011. I was never so happy as I was on May 7th to finally end my undergrad days. It was tough to stay motivated at the end. I got into PT school on early acceptance, so I have known since December that I was in. I somehow prevailed and graduated with the honors that I wanted to. It was a rough road at times, made rougher by the fact that I am a non-trad student in my 40's so the socail aspect of college wasn't the same as for all my classmates.

I am looking forward to the next 14 weeks off and plan to just relax, work out, fish, take a couple of trips to see family, and enjoy myself.

Congrats to all of you who will be starting this year. It should be fun!

Just started two days ago. I am also non traditional, so it was a little overwhelming to be back in school with so much expected. A little stressed right now and I hope I can get everything done that I need to, but I am enjoying the people and classes so far...

I will be starting at Franklin Pierce Arizona in a couple of weeks. I got my B.S. a year ago and have just been working nearly full time (PT Tech) since then so getting back into the groove with school probably will be a little difficult. OK, maybe a lot difficult given the demands of the program. 😉 Anyway, I've done all the pre-req stuff that FPU requires, my books arrived via FedEx today so the next two weeks is just going to be relaxing and trying not to stress (I had resigned from my PT Tech job to have a couple of weeks down time before school starts). I am really looking forward to this last phase of my long trip to being a PT - nervous but still looking forward to it.

I will be starting school on August 29th at Chatham University. I finished my prereqs in August 2010 (I felt too rushed to try to apply for 2010 Fall start) and have been working full-time for the past year. I've known since December I was accepted and it seems like it's taking forever to get here!!!

I'm super excited to get started, and my SO and I just bought our first home. So, my summer plans are to fix up my new house, go on vacation (hopefully) and try to enjoy this little bit of free time left. 🙂

Markel- Very exciting about Chatham! I'm in my 3rd semester there, taking the lovely 11 credit Musculoskeletal course. It's intense but we are learning soooo much.

Where did you buy a house? My fiancee and I bought a house in Edgewood recently, and moved in over my Spring Break. We are getting married in July, 4 days after this semester ends. Yes, I am crazy...

Definitely enjoy the freedom this summer, I am jealous!

That's awesome! Yeah, that 11 credit course is going to be killer 😉 First I need to get through 6 credits of anatomy. Haha. 🙂

We bought a house in Morningside! We are actually so close to the zoo that our neighbors told us to leave our windows open this summer at night because you can hear the animals down at the zoo. Thankfully, we are not so close that we can smell them!! 😛

My SO's dad has a condo in Edgewood-- and congrats on your upcoming wedding! (Our plan is to wait until I'm totally done with school... seems like forever!)

I am also in AZ and will be applying for the 2012 rotation at FP. I hope by then they will have decided on their new location and then can double their student numbers. Where else did you apply?

Hi Litlwarrior. I too am hoping FPU will chose a more permanent site soon - preferably one a little closer to where I live 😉. I applied to all the DPT programs in Arizona - NAU, MWU, ATStill and FPU. I was accepted at FPU and AT Still, waitlisted at MWU and rejected at NAU. That rejection was really disappointing because I applied to NAU for the 2010 entering class and was interviewed but didn't make the final cut; this time, I didn't even get an interview. 😡

Good luck with the applications for next year - can I assume you're also looking at the AZ schools?

Yes all AZ............ I really don't want to apply out of state, might consider U of New Mex, or Nevada. Some of the TX schools look good w/ reasonable tuition. Refuse to go where it is cold---silly me. Encouraging that you were accepted at stills. I toured all 4 az schools. Love the NAU tuition. I have seen a lot of rejection post regarding NAU. Where did you get your BS / major, and if you don't mind how were your scores? I will finish at ASU in Kinesiology 5/2012. Still have 4 preq. to finish up this year that weren't part of the Kin program. cutting it close.

3 weeks in and it's going great. Been very, very busy (especially with 2 kids at home and one being 5 weeks old), but it's been enjoyable. First big Anatomy test is finished (96%, yes!), but as soon as that one ended, had to start studying for the next one...

I just received my notice of acceptance to Long Island University on wednesday. Has been such a long haul trying to get to this point and I'm so excited to finally be here. I was on the wait list, so everything is incredibly last minute since the program starts on July 5th! Need to pick up and move from chicago to nyc somehow.

sjs9981, congrats, you've done it! =D

As for me, TWU-Houston, as my sig says. lol

I'll be starting at the end of August! Excited. As for the summer? Hmmm.. just helping out my brother at his Smoothie Factory and tutoring to earn a little money before I start as an unemployed student for the first time! Can't say I'm not excited about that.

Litlwarrior08 - which prereqs are you missing? I thought kinesiology at ASU covers all the prereqs, or at least you could choose courses that covered them.

Some courses will need to be taken outside of the kin series. For instance, only physics 1 and chemistry 1 are core classes for the kin major. But physics 1 and 2 as well as chemistry 1 and 2 are pre reqs for PT school, so they need to be taken as electives. Abnormal and/or developmental psych could likely count towards kin credit, but only 6 credits can count towards kin credit.

In all honesty, I wouldn't major in Kinesiology if I could do it again. If PT school doesn't work out for whatever reason, I have a useless degree. Something to think about...

That's what I have heard as well, but not going the kinesiology route would delay me quite a bit with all the pre-reqs. I will be 36 when PT school is done as it is, and I really would prefer to delay it as little as possible. It's either roll the dice on PT with the kinesiology degree or play it safe and add up to a year of schooling extra. If there was a way to be prudent and keep it within time constraints, I would, but from what I've seen I don't see how it's possible. Plus when I commit, I commit. It becomes an obsession and I do what it takes to ensure there's no turning back.

Those psych classes require their own prereq. and I also have to do 6 credits general BIO / microbio for many of the requirments. taking the psychs and Bios this year. Kin is basically done this fall. I wish ASU offered the medical term and CPR classes. Will have to pull those at a community college.

1 final tomorrow and 1 final on thursday and the first semester is in the books. It went by very fast, honestly. I has been a ton of work, but I have enjoyed it. Man am I looking forward to an 18 day break, though. 🙂

School sucks just like I thought.... except more work.
I'm not screwed just hard work to keep the head on straight. It's not dandelions n roses...

Yup it is a TON of work. I just got done with 17 tests in 25 days, or something ridiculous like that. Just finished my last one and now a 2.5 week break. Whew!
