I've been reading the RR goljan from cover to cover, and I find it that the blue notes on the sides are quite informative and give you a good quick review on a lot of diseases.
Those are almost like HY points that give you a good representation of additional diseases not mentioned in First Aid.
You can definitely go through the points in a morning.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for sharing.

I read almost 95% of RR and gave up today with MSK ,Skin disorders and few pages of reprod system left out.

With 2 weeks out, I am just gonna stick to those margin notes now.

Unless I have a VERY good reason to come back and finish those cover to cover.

what if your test is realllly heavy on msk repro and skin and you could have just spent those couple extra hours on it... no I'm j/k

man. I hate skin pathology. so boring and it all looks the same. stupid biopsies that have purple staining of whatever under the microscope. It all looks the same. 😡

Oh and all those freakin' terms. Papule, macule, plaque, bulla, vesicle, blah, poo, crap, ****!

Yeah skin pathology is confusing. It's very easy to mess up the diseases. Thank God atleast now I feel comfortable enough to answer most questions on skin pathology though and that was after MANY times reading it again and again, sometimes even from Robbins!

:scared: Looks like I am better off without burdening myself with the guilt of not reading up skin and MSK from RR.

K, I'll get those suckers outta the way today.

I'd say read through, then do some of the online RR questions to see if you took away a few key points.

SO true -- I left Skin and MSK for the end, and it was PAINFUL for me to get through the skin chapter in RR Goljan because 1) it all sounded the same, 2) I wasn't retaining anything and 3) the pictures were too gross to look at 😱

MSK is also very long and blah in RR, and I think that listening to the audio for MSK along with reading FA is pretty high yield.

I've also come to the realization that RR Path 3rd ed. is too long and detailed, and the formatting just spreads it out so much, it's daunting to get through. I'm just glad I started reading it a while ago, and have been able to almost get through it...

I was under the impression that it's the same as the 2nd ed. but with more pictures.

From what's been said on here, the main change (besides extra pictures and margin notes) is "they made symptoms of diseases in list form rather than putting them all on one line separated by commas."

Which, in my opinion, is about the best change they could've made. Who cares if it's "longer", the content is the same (assuming they didn't also add tons of stuff), and much easier to process in that format (for me at least).

hey im still early on it my preparation and wanted to ask to what extent should you know Goljan if your aiming for a 99? Should it be like FA (in and out) or only the blue margins or perhaps simply understand the big picture and then memorize only the patho points in FA...

Not sure - I'd be interested in this also. I go through Goljan along with my courses and make sure I get at least one good pass through it (as others have said, it can get a bit dense). I think the blue margins are money though and I'm making sure I know those cold.

Reading lot of the posts on here who've scored 99 seems to suggest that you should probably know it pretty well. I don't know if you've noticed but RR is pretty comprehensive in that it ties in lot of other subjects (pharm, micro, etc.) really nicely. So it would seem to me that if I know RR pretty well, I'd stand a good chance at getting 99.
