A typo can get you in!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Enjoyable read. I think it holds true for med school as well. Actually, I think it is more relevant to med school as they look far deeper into character and there is far more pressure to promote yourself as an applicant.

What I see a lot of are the people who are asking for advice on the premise that they are doing things only to impress adcoms -- and they see nothing wrong with it. As a young non-trad, I appreciate that mentality because I'm not far removed from it. However, I know I've benefited greatly by trying to look at myself from an outside perspective. Ever met someone and thought to yourself: "how can that guy not know he's a total prick?!" That prick could be you (or me for that matter). 😎

As far as promoting yourself, I don't think you can go wrong if you focus on demonstrating why you chose an activity and how it helped you mature as a person.

Yep good read. Thanks. The article says what a lot of SDNers have been saying with regard to the "greatest weakness" interview question. Perfectionism is not a genuine answer.

I'm glad that at least one college counselor out there has the balls to say what kids need to hear. Playing the game is one thing but for the love of God, try to enjoy it too. You'll hurt yourself sooner or later if you don't find some perverse pleasure in the process.

I'll certainly be worrying less about my typos now. It's a wild concept though. At least now I know why med school websites have typos too! They want to appear more authentic 😉

That was a good article but you should definitely not put any interntional typos on your AMCAS. That's sorta missing the point.

yea, i think the point here is that you should be yourself not who you think the adcoms want you to be.

there isn't a prototype "ideal" candidate. there are lots of unique folks that could be the ideal candidate. it's up to you to sell yourself and that's all.

So who wants to wager on how many "Help! I didn't put any typos in my AMCAS/secondaries...will I get in?" threads there will be?

Good cause I just realized I spelled "Researcher" wrong on my primary. Now all I have to do is wait for Northwestern to take the bait...

" I want to be Medacle stoodent so I can cuur peeple".

Harvard here I come!

haha
at least i know i am sticking my ass to my weakness: women

I got ragged on for using the pseudo-word "outcasted" (in the essay it was surrounded by quotation marks) instead of a word like "ostracized" when writing my personal statement for college. Meh

ass long as the typo isn't another school's name, or something potentially offensive (i.e. the beginning of this sentence), i think you'll be ok.

Screw that. Alabama should be pleased that I got them confused with Harvard.

Sweet! I can say my typos were on purpose now!
