You could try contacting AAMC about the testing conditions and see what they have to say. Best case would be they void your score and give you another opportunity to take the old MCAT again.

thanks for the advice. I just hope i'm able to take the old mcat.

That really sucks. Sucks even more when you have to pay 270 dollars for it.

I'm pretty sure that AAMC has voided scores over situations like this. Do a search through these forums and let us know what you come up with!

Yeah, just call AAMC. Hopefully you can work something out. Good luck!

the scores for the first admistration of the new 2015 mcat won't actually be released until about a month after the amcas app opens, so taking the new exam is not really an optimal option if i want to apply as early as possible.
Dude, that's going to have absolutely zero factor on your application. There's little to no advantage in being really early.

The scores are released at the same time for everybody lol. It's not gonna affect you negatively.

I REALLY feel for you. There is construction going on across the street from where I live for an apartment complex and they often are out working starting at midnight until the early morning and it is LOUD. It already takes away my sleep, I can't imagine if I had to take the MCAT with the noise. I am so sorry. I hope AAMC can work something out for you.

It is super unfortunate because even if you get them to void and/or a refund, the old MCAT is ending soon and you probably have to take the new one (unless you choose not to void and risk getting a lower than expected score).

Yeah, I feel for the poor guy too. There was a damn woman taking the GRE right next to me during my MCAT, pounding away on her keyboard during my entire biological sciences section. I hadn't practiced test taking with earplugs in or anything, so I was royally distracted. Even with earplugs in, it was still really loud. Luckily I still pulled out a decent score, but it might have been a point or two better. They really should have better standards with these testing centers. If people are taking different tests, have them take it at a different time. If there's construction going on, close the test center. I mean really, how difficult is this? The AAMC is a damn monopoly and it shows.

There was a kid (around 6 years old) testing in the room with me. He kept leaving and coming back, asking the proctor questions at full volume. Man, I was pissed.

What could a 6 year old possibly be doing at a testing center?

not as bad as construction, but the fingerprint thing wouldn't work to let us back in when we went on break-the test sections WILL start without you! and the restroom on our floor next to the test center was magically broken that day...

You can do it ! Just need the proper encouragement.
Hey sdn,

I took my mcat today and there was construction going on right below the testing room. Full blown construction... Electric saws, drilling, hammering etc etc. it was extremely loud even with ear plugs in and head phones on. Im not exaggerating this.

To make matters worse, the test admins even said that construction had been going on for several days and that other people complained during other exams there, basically implying that this could have been avoided in the first place.

I'm afraid this may have badly affected my performance. It's already a tense situation because it's the mcat, but add grinding wielding drilling hammering on top of that and it just sucks...

I'm honestly not even sure what to think. I've been studying months and got in the low 30s on my amcas practice exams, hitting a max of 34.

If I score poorly I'll have to retake the new mcat, in which case I'll have to hold off on applying this year and instead apply next year.

This just sucks. Any thoughts or advice

sorry for the delayed response, @Goro!

for the past 5 years, I searched the forums like you said... came out with nothing except a big fat A to medical school today 🙂

(This necrobump seems justified!)
