Do you have any publications? I have a friend with very similar board scores with almost 20 GS interviews and several at academic programs, but has a very solid research resume. DOs with research seem to be a hot commodity in GS this year (likely due to the merger)
Nothing spectacular, 1 decent pub in a known surgical journal, two studies under submission, one being "meh". Probably my weakest area outside of being an DO.

I'm not by any means opposed to community programs, but was hoping for a little love from the academic side for options.

On the flip side, I have multiple classmates applying IM/EM/Peds with healthy II from university/academic and they don't have a more robust research background.

Hmm honestly for a DO applicant that’s a decent research resume. Could be that you applied too narrowly for this cycle. The people I’m aware of with high teens to 20+ IIs all applied to 100+ programs, even if this wouldn’t have been their strategy in a normal cycle

Oh ya for sure... there are really only a few select locations of the country I want to live so definitely limited myself on that end. I was stretching at the end to add programs to my list and decided it wasn't worth spending money on programs in areas of the country I have no desire to live in.

I'm happy with having as many II's as I do and perhaps one or two academic ones will a trickle my way over the coming weeks.
