What is your opinion on this newer branch of medicine and this board? I have been wanting to pursue "Anti Aging Medicine" with emphasis on Mens Health. However 95% of the clinics I have researched in my area seem to be based on shady practices with serious conflicts of interested. For eg. The owner that owns the clinic also owns the compounding pharmacy and the doctor at the clinic prescribed drugs that are to be bought from the pharmacy.

American Academy of Anti aging offers board certificare that is about 3500$. I have read some of the chapters from their study material and even though they try to come across as evidence based, the studies they cite seem to be of poor quality. However I was never good at critically analyzing studies, and relied on people much smarter than me to come up with guidelines based off solid studies.

Is it possible to open a sustainable profitable business yet ethical medical practice in this field?

Also going along the same lines, how can a compound pharmacy sell patented medications for cheaper. I came across American Compounding pharmacies that sell sildenafil and tadalfil to their patients for much cheaper than the brand version. If a medication is patented than how are these pharmacies bypassing the laws to make the meds and sell them?

The pulmonary hypertension formulations (which are identical except in a lower dose) are available as generics. So while Viagra (sildenafil) is brand name, Revatio (also sildenafil) has a generic available (still sildenafil) if only in a 20mg dose rather than a 25-100mg. Presumably the compounding pharmacy just compounds the generics to make bigger pills 😛

So for my patients that have ED and cannot afford viagra, can i prescribe them Revatio and tell them to take 3 pills? or is that "illegal." I have seen docs get around Cialis by prescribing it for "BPH" so it is covered by insurance.

But ED and BPH are kinda related through the pathway of LUTS. but ED and pulmonary hypertension lol.. Not so much

You can prescribe as much Revatio as you want, for any reason. Physicians go off label all the time. Insurance may not reimburse it, but the cash price on goodrx.com is about ~$20 for 30 pills compared to $400 for 10 pills of viagra.

If my clinic wasn't at the VA, I'd probably use that trick for some of my old farts.

80% of my male patients above 50 want to collectively say "thank you Raryn"
