AACOMAS 2014 Application
Started by kinokoboy
Already? Really? Lol but really I'd just wait until May 1 to send them as that's the day apps open for next cycle.

I'm non-trad. and some of my institutions are over 5 years old.
ugghh...some of them require me to fax them a request...
My first school I attended was from 5 years ago. I had to pay 8 bucks online AND fax them a form. No biggie. You can do all of them in 1 night no problem. It's much less of a hassle than you may think.
Thanks. Is the personal statement about why I want to go into medicine? Is it supposed to be less than two pages?
Usually a page Kinko, tell them you want to help people. 🙂

Everything is around May 1st, or the first week of May in 2013. Relax. Enjoy the holidays.

4500 character max
But I want to do pathology!!!
I'm sure there's a way to sell that in caring for patients. but if I'm honest, I would focus less on any specialty and more on why you want to be a physician in general.
I don't know if your college does this, but mine allows me to order them and put the date I want them sent. You can just mark them for May.
Hey! Okay so i'm going to be applying this year and I was wondering when does the primary AACOMAS application actually start? Can we work on it in May and turn it in June(like with the AMCAS)? Just wanted to get a rough idea of when I needed to start everything, thanks!
Well, here's my progress so far:
-I'm currently working on the third revision for my personal statement. From the information I've gathered from SDN, AACOMAS has a 4500 character limit and AMCAS has a 5300 character limit. Obviously, I may have to tweak my personal statement for one of these organizations.
-I've contacted three science professors who will write me strong LORs and I will be getting them at the end of February.
-My employer, a physician, will be writing me a LOR and should have it ready by the end of February.
-I'll be getting a LOR from a pathologist I've been shadowing by the end of March.
-Haven't had time to update my CV. I'll try to do this before next semester.

Set up an interfolio account to keep you LORs. You may also be able to keep your transcripts there. Then, for a small fee, you can send it all to each DO school you apply to.
It does suck to pay the fee each time, but it saves the hassle.
Remember, once you are accepted, you also need to send transcripts to the school. The transcripts you sent to AACOMAS or AMCAS don't count. That is why sending the transcripts to Interfolio may be a good idea.

How soon can I start entering in coursework for the 2013-2014 application? Do I have to wait until May 1, 2013?
I was in your same situation last year. You can add coursework or fill in any the information AACOMAS requires now for the 2013 cycle. Once the 2014 cycle opens in May you sign in with your usual name and it will ask if you want to transfer everything over to the new cycle. All you do is click yes 'poof ' it is in the new cycle. I thought I would lose it all and ended up copying everything into a word file for nothing.
HOWEVER it will not copy over anything that you add or send to AACOMAS such as transcripts and even official MCAT scores. You must wait for the new cycle to open in May to add that stuff.
When does the 2013-2014 aacomas app open and when can it be submitted?
Please read the thread as it has been mentioned already, plus its one of the easiest things to find on the AACOMAS website. Opens ~May 1st, can submit ~June 1st.
Bros it's way too early to be thinking about AACOMAS. Chill out.
I disagree, I'd be drafting my PS & asking for rec letters by now, if it were me.

I didn't start any of that until after my MCAT (April 5). I think I might have waited until I got my score back tbh.You definitely want to cover LORs and PS ASAP. My best letter writer didn't end up submitting her letter until mid-September, although I asked her the preceding January. And my PS set me back two months trying to get it perfect. I should've started mine sooner.
The only thing I would be concerned about right now is LORs as a previous poster mentioned.
