Hey guys and gals,
I just have a quick question regarding GPA evaluation, and couldn't find the appropriate answers after doing a search. I have heard that AACOMAS GPA calculation seems to be higher than the actual GPA at your academic institution-- And how is this so? How do they calculate GPA's?

My university uses the +/- grading system-- How is this accounted for w/ ACCOMAS?

Thanks,
Chace.

If you look in the help section of the AACOMAS app and scroll down you will find a chart that lists the grades (A, A-, B+, B..) and what they're worth (4.0, 3.7, 3.3, 3.0, 2.7...)...If this is how your college does it they should be the same...People run into differences if their school has, say A+s (the highest you can get for anything w/ aacomas or amcas is a 4.0..) or no plus/minuses...So your GPA should be on target with your schools...It is easy and quick to calculate what your AACOMAS GPA will be using the chart and conversions from quarter to semester hours if necessary (if you have a quarter system)...

The other thing people talk about is the change in science GPA from AMCAS to AACOMAS, I don't think this was your concern but just throwing that out there. AACOMAS doesn't include math in the science GPA which seems to help a lot of folks out who aren't math-whizzes. The change was huge for me...My cum of course stayed the same but my AACOMAS science GPA was a 3.55 whereas my AMCAS was only a 3.36.

So my gpa would be lower than at my school then, because we have +'s but not -'s ? A B+ here at UF is worth 3.5, but AACOMAS will only be 3.3?

that is correct.

also on AACOMAS when you repeat a course only the last grade given is calculated into your score. They are not averaged in.

Ben, right...Any B+s would count as 3.3, not 3.5

From AAcomas website

AACOMAS Grade: The AACOMAS grading system standardizes the way grades will be reported to your designated colleges. AACOMAS grades include: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D- and F. The AACOMAS Grade is assigned a numeric value to calculate your grade point average. These values are:

A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0
D- 0.7
F 0.0

If your institution uses this grading scale, choose the appropriate grade from the Letter Grade Format. If the "+" grade has a value of ". 5" at your institution, you need to reflect the ". 5" numeric value for "+" grades only in the AACOMAS Grade column. Enter the numeric grade for plus grades (e.g. 3.5, 2.5, or 1.5). Enter letter grades for all other grades.

If your institution uses a numeric grading system in which the grade of 4.0 = A, 3.0 = B, etc., use the Numeric Grade Format.
