Does anyone know how our grades are presented from AACOMAS? Is it one lump grade or seperate for different schools? Or seperate grades for post-bac courses?

Do the schools we apply to see our actual transcripts or just what AACOMAS has caluculated? From what I understand, we only send transcripts to AACOMAS??

Thanks.

Schools do not see your actual transcript, although all classes are presented in the app. Your credit hours are sliced and shown from multiple angles: science and non-science for every year (per designation fr, so, jr, sr, pb, gr) and overall.

Additionally, another section shows all classes broken out by type of class (bio, physics, math/stat, engl, non-sci, etc.) with your GPA and hours. Extra columns exists to show hours with <2.0 and AP.

I know the AACOMAS only uses the last grade reported (if you fail a grade and then retake and do better) but what about if you failed a class while getting your bachelors, didn't retake before earning bachelors but retook after earning bachelors. For instance, I flunked Chem back in 1986 at one school but retook it and got an A post-graduate at a different school.

Please tell me that F goes away... 😳

Was that class an undergraduate class? eg. was it Organic Chemistry I? If the retake was an undergraduate class and equal to the class you initially failed, the F goes away.

Does anyone know if AACOMAS calculates Graduate and Undergraduate GPA together, or separately? I used to know but have forgotten.

My instinct and from what I read, it goes away.

It was General Chemistry I. Can you believe back in 1986?! Haunts me to this day.

I think your GPA is all calculated together but it also shows freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years and then post-graduate. Schools can see a general trend in grades. That's why it's important for old timers like me with a blown GPA in undergraduate work to show a good GPA now.

But I could be wrong about the post-bac gpa.

It is shown seperately.. fr, SO, JR, SR, Post Bac, Grad

Then the total.. all of them.. then the total science and non-science.

If you took the equal class ... years later they will still take the better mark.

If you took classes in 80s and you have taken some more recent classes and did much much much better.. or at all better, than I would still go ahead and appy. Remember they like to see mature applicants... doesn't mean you are a sure thing!

Your case... similar to mine.. except not in 80s rather mid 90's.. this will provide better proof to the admission committee of your failure and success and proved that you are capable of making better grades. You can tell them likewise... you will learn from the past and adjust to the requirements of med school.

As long as you make the min application requirement.. then you should go ahead and apply. Some schools just look at GPA (first glance).. so you should call them all and press them for an answer.

Good luck.
