I am unsure if there has been a thread about this, but I was unaware of this until recently so I figured I would make a specific post so hopefully more people can read about the AACOMAS deadline. I think this is new, but I am not 100% sure - It says beginning in April....

"Starting April 1, osteopathic medical colleges report to AACOMAS the names and identification of candidates who have paid a deposit, hold a position at an osteopathic medical college entering class or both. After May 15,
AACOMAS reports to each institution the names and candidates for its entering class who hold an acceptance(s) at additional institutions. An osteopathic medical college may rescind an offer of admissions to a candidate who has paid deposits to or holds positions at multiple institutions. If the osteopathic medical
college chooses to withdraw the candidate from the entering class, the college must give the candidate a minimum 15-day notice. After the 15-day notice, if the candidate does not respond and is withdrawn from a college, the deposit is forfeited and the seat may be given to another candidate. Therefore, prior to May 15,
applicants need to withdraw from any college(s) which they do not plan to attend and only hold a position at one college of osteopathic medicine to avoid having positions withdrawn." (AACOMAS CIB, 2016, pg. 25)

Seems like more than just a guideline to me, but maybe I am wrong?

Is that last year's cycle or the upcoming one?
I think it is for the current cycle and all cycles moving forward. I only say that because it is in the 2016 book and states that it begins this April (I think). Also, someone had posted earlier about the Marian dean saying he will receive a paper from AACOMAS with this same information so it leads me to believe that this is true for the current cycle.

Basically what it says is: If you're holding multiple acceptances, you should decide on ONE school before May 15 or risk having acceptances rescinded.

I like this, though, because prior to this implementation students could wait until school starts before the other school(s) would realize that certain students were no-shows.

Seriously! So Happy about this implementation. I hope many people drop out of NYIT-COM Arkansas campus soon enough!

Yep, wasn't sure if it was going to happen this year or not (so many rumors last year going around about this). Glad it is happening, shouldn't have taken as many decades as it did.

Definitely agree! Better structure and organization for medical schools in regards to wait listed students.

Shouldn't AACOMAS mass email everyone in their system about this? This is major, especially because it involves rescinding acceptances. If I wasn't on SDN, there's no way I would have known about an update buried 25 pages deep in some online booklet.

Sounds fair to me.

April should imo be the month that everyone must finally decide if they have an acceptance and then early May be the month where wait lists are done, you get a call and have 48hrs to accept. Dragging things out until July/first of August is just not an efficient way of handling things for the schools or the students who might or might not need to apply the next cycle.

I agree, a reminder would have been nice...

I definitely agree with the both of you, but in all fairness it does stipulate that the schools must give you a 15 day grace period to reply back once they have sent out the warning to rescind your acceptance.

Is that what they are saying? For me, the wording makes it seem like they have to give you a 15-day notice, but still are rescinding your offer.

If they are still rescinding it really doesn't make good sense to give you a 15 day notice. So my guess is the notice is for you to make up your mind. It also states that the applicant has to respond (which I'm taking the response to be NO don't withdraw me!! if that person really wants to stay). So I think it's just a bit poorly worded.

Still if anyone has multiple offers on the table I'd be sure and make a choice asap and let the others know.

Yes, they are saying that IF you have multiple acceptances still on May 15th, then they reserve the right to extend an ultimatum of either you accepting their school's offer or they are going to drop you as a student. The 15 days was set into place to allow the student an adequate amount of time to reply.
