Hi sdn, I posted this on the AACOMAS thread but no one got to it there. So I am copying it here.

I have a couple of questions regarding AACOMAS.

1. Do you guys think that the more credits we have, the longer it takes for the app to get verified?

2. When we do an update, such as after fall, doesn't that mean that the app has to get re-verified again? I am confused about how the update works and was hoping someone who has been through the process could enlighten me.

Thanks everyone!

1. Probably not, but maybe a little. It probably will still get done around the same time (i.e. same day) as it would with less courses. More importantly, why does it matter? Its not like you are going to cater which courses you take based on how long verification would take.

2. This has been answered a TON of times, and by me at least 3 or so. Please search next time. Here is what I wrote on another thread:

What you basically do is you complete the AACOMAS application, with the planned/in progress courses listed in there. Also you need to make sure that the courses you took earlier and the retakes are labeled as RNY, meaning you are in the process of retaking them. Then the second your grades get posted on your transcript, send the transcript right away to AACOMAS, and they will fill in the grades and it will be submitted to all the schools within a week or so as an updated application.

This will not delay the process, as the schools will see the first application, and then they will be automatically updated with the new one. Also, be sure to check that AACOMAS processed your update properly, as mistakes do happen, and you might want to update some schools by email just to make sure they got it, but most/all get it automatically within a week.

Also, as far as updates for activities go, you can send schools those updates by email when you are put on hold, waitlist, haven't heard anything from them, or even just as a monthly thing to show your continued interest.

The update doesn't require re-verification per se, but it does require verifying the new courses. Meaning, you will need to send them an updated transcript for them to update the grades for those courses and process the verified application.

With the update then, is the Cumulative GPA and Science GPA updated accordingly?

Yes they update both. Basically, anytime you update your application it takes about a week. Possibly longer for grade updates. Once they have it in their system it gets sent to the schools on a Tuesday and you will see the updated application on the application website on Wednesday.

I took Organic 1 w/o the Lab for a dumb reason and did poorly. Received a C-. The class was 3 hours.

I retook Organic 1 but it was 4 hours as it had the lab included.

I'm not familiar with AACOMAS, but seeing as how I'd be listing the 4 hour class as a retake, and it has a different number of hours---will AACOMAS be sure to replace it?

Exactly. That being said, when the updated app is released, you should double check that it's accurate, because they made a mistake in my update and my GPAs did not actually update, so it took an extra week for me.

To the above poster, yes any course that is greater than or equal to in credits of the one it is replacing will work. Example your 4 credit ochem1 will replace 3 credit ochem1. However you can't do it the other way around.

And that's good to know!

As long as the retake credits are equal to or greater than the course you are replacing, it'll be fine. So in your specific situation, the 4 credit course will work as a replacement.

FYI, YOU label the course as a replacement. As long as its a reasonable replacement, and the rule above is satisfied, AACOMAS won't have a problem with it.
