Can someone please explain to me how grade forgiveness works? Anything you know about it. I want to know how the schools view my retakes and how frowned upon it is. I did awful in undergrad. I had some personal issues at home so I focused more on graduating a year early than doing it well. I really regret it but I dont want to give up on this, I also don't want to have an application worth being laughed at

The retake replaces the original, so it's like the original never existed in your gpa, even though it will show up on your transcript. The courses must be similar in name, credit hrs, etc.

DO schools are fine with it, as long as there is an upward trend. That said, they might not look too favorably if you retook every class 5 times. 🙂

A good rule of thumb is retake F, D, and maybe C's until your c/sgpa is competitive. See the AACOM MCIB for latest stats.

Best of Luck

Basically this OP. Personally, I think that retaking classes you goofed up on when you were younger and more stupid (myself right here) and doing much better the second time, coupled with an upward trend, can show maturity and growth. Now I wouldn't retake a class three semesters in a row and end up with a B.... That would probably raise some eyebrows.

And Drmike I just realized technically I could apply with a 4.0 if I retook every non A class haha. I wonder if some idiot has tried that before 😵
