Hey guys,

I was wondering if I can use the same essay that i used my first application cycle if i plan to reapply. The reason being that i am going to have the same reasons again for why i want to pursue dentistry. Any suggestions?

i'd re-write it even if it's basically saying the same thing. soemtimes it's not about what you say, it's how you say it.

improve your content, the grammar, maybe add some adjectives, better syntax, whatever.

think of it this way: it didn't get you in last year, what makes you think it will this year? besides, if you were an adcom, would you want to see a re-applicant submit the same old sh** he submitted the year before?

I agree - I would rewrite it as well. You don't have to completely reinvent it, but if you were to change some things around just enough that it would appear fresh and not as left-overs to the adcoms you'll be the better for it. Best of luck!

Should you mention in the personal statement why you're reapplying and how you've improved the next time around?

That might be okay, but my tendancy is to stay away from bringing up 'undesirable' information. Granted, it's true that said person will be applying for a second time, but sometimes things are only an issue if they are raised. In addition, the personal statement is too important of a space to waste on an explanation rather than promotion.

Just my opinion but whatever you talk about, make sure its not about volunteering and stuff like that unless it was a very unique experience that many people don't get to experience. My essay was a page long on Word but for some reason it was less than half a page when printed off of AADSAS. Anyway one interviewer/admission rep told me that it stood out because it wasn't about my volunteering (didnt do much to talk about) but rather about my life experiences and how it pushed me towards dental. He was also impressed that it was short and straight to the point  . I didnt do that on purpose but I guess I got real lucky. Not the greatest essay for sure but it stood out I guess. Goodluck with applying.

Are you implying that you haven't done anything note worthy since your last application?
