I have searched all over for this, and I can't seem to find a clear answer. I'm 24, and pretty much starting over in college (to me). I had a good job, making decent money, but realized Dentistry is what I really want to do. However, I never took college seriously before. I always went part-time, and put work well above class.

So, to be honest, I've got a TON of WU's. My primary focus is now my education. So far this semester I've received an A on anything that needs to be graded, and I am very confident I'm going to succeed here on out. I'm taking 16 credits, and doing Bio/Chem. The best thing is I never took science, so my sGPA won't be ruined. I've read that adcoms will notice a change in GPA for the better. That's great. However, I can't really seem to find out if a WU is regarded as an F on the AADSAS GPA. A WU (for those who may use someother code) is an unofficial withdrawal. It is given when a student has excessive absences from class.

It may seem stupid, but at the time I had -NO- idea I would be trying to get into dental school. I would hate to be penalized for things that happened years ago, which don't show my true ability. Now, I know a lot of people will encourage me and say just do well from now on, which is great, and I thank you. The thing is, I just want to know in advance that if I bust my ass off for the next 2-3 years getting A's if it will wind up being a 2.5 GPA because so many WU's will be blended in.

If anyone has any personal experience with this situation, I would be grateful to hear about how it works. Thank you!

I have a really similar backgroud to you where I had a good ole time in college for bachelors degree and barely making it through. I then decided to go back to school to apply for dentistry and I've been back in school for the past 4 years to make up for it. I had about 4 or 5 Ws and when I inputted those they came in as not being counted into the GPA. However, all my C-s, Ds, and Fs were counted in and my overall GPA from AADSAS came out to about 2.99 OA/2.93 Science. I was an engineering major so most of my classes were science based. I'm applying this year and I have gotten interviews for three schools so, they really do put an emphasis on your latter coursework.

Were your withdrawals W's or WU's? The WU counts as an F grade to the school and brings down your gpa. I'm trying to figure out if the AADSAS will count it the same way, or as a regular W.
