Hey guys,

So one thing that has been nagging in the application process is the LOE. I have looked at the LOE requirements for different schools and many of them are not the same. So far I have a science prof and a dentist.... should I plan on getting 2 more science profs? Most schools say they want 3 science professors but others want other letters. I am confused on how I fit all the criteria for all the schools with a max of 4 LOE. Im not sure if that makes sense so i guess what Im trying to say is am i OK with getting 3 LOE from science profs and 1 from a dentist?

Thanks everyone!

Nova requires 2 science, 1 DMD/DDS, and 1 non-science professor. UNLV requires 2 science, 1 DMD/DDS, and 1 anyone. Some schools require volunteer coordinators (ASDOH). Other schools like you've mentioned requires 3 science. To be on the safe side I believe most applicants put 2 science and 1 DMD/DDS onto AADSAS. This is the requirement for the majority of schools. Then for the schools that require a 4th LOE call them and they will tell you how you can send it in. I know some schools you can just email the 4th LOE to their email and they will put it into your application.

On a side note I believe the only benefit of a committee letter is to circumvent all these LOE problems.

There is a list that Doc has put together that has the LOE requirements for all the schools. A quick search should help.

OP knows what each school requires. OP just wants to know how to fit all those different LOE into the AADSAS application with only 4 evaluator spots.

Do the committee letter that @8th mentioned, it's the only way to get all those science teachers and everyone else in there without wasting evaluator spots. Worst comes to worse, just have the evaluators mail out the LOE to each school. Make sure to provide them with the envelopes and postage when you do that and A LIST OF WHICH LETTERS GO WHERE SO THEY DON'T MUCK IT UP.

Thanks for the feedback!! You guys are so informative. I will think about putting together a committee letter because I have several people that will be writing a LOE for me!

The definition of the committee letter confuses me a bit; what do they mean by an advising office? I'f I'm getting a LOE from professors from different faculties, what is this advising office supposed to be? Or is advising office supposed to be something simple? Thanks for the clarification!

Talk to your advisor about the pre-health committee because they are the ones who send out the committee letter, not you. Just to clarify, the committee letter is saying that you meet the minimum grade requirements for such a letter to be written blah blah blah plus 3 letters from professors you worked/studied under. I had my orgo, genetics, and Greek language professors write me letters that are part of the committee letter. Then I had the dentist I was shadowing submit one as well. So with only 2 evaluator spots used i got 4 letters in and fulfilled all the schools letters of rec requirements.

Some pre-health committees require interview sessions with you, and can be a lengthy process. If you plan on applying next cycle be sure to talk to your pre health adviser early on next year to get you prepared early. If you plan on applying this cycle, I wouldn't bother with a committee letter because of the timing in this cycle.
