It was 2007 new year time when someone posted a thread on this website which had a link to the AADSAS new policy regarding applicant who are holding multiple positions in dental schools.

The AADSAS PDF file says that schools will exchange their list in May 1, 2007 and will give applicants a min of 15 day notice to let them make up their mind about their final decision.

I called a couple of schools and they said they had not done that yet (exchanging the list) although today is the last week of May!!????

Please reply to this thread if you know any schools that are enforcing this new rule or you can also let other people know if you have received such notice from schools.

I don't think this rule is necessary. Unless someone has a lot of money they are willing to just give away, there's no way they can hold many acceptances at once. For me to have held on to all 3 acceptances right now I would have had to shell out nearly $6k to hold on to all the spots through may.

I've learned never to be surprised at how easily some people can waste mommy and daddy's money

It's not really an issue of wasting money. I, for example, paid a deposit on my third choice school before my interview at my first choice school. I didn't really have an option, since the deadline to pay the deposit on my third choice school was before my interview.

My third choice school had no additional deposits, so it wouldn't cost me a dime extra to keep both acceptances. Now, I *did* withdraw my acceptance well before the May 1st deadline because I was pretty certain of where I wanted to go. But, money didn't play any role in that decision to withdraw when I did.

CaliDDS, would you mind sharing which schools you called?

This is an interesting point.

Although a mostly anonymous forum, and probably a small, small sample size - there has been no posts about anybody who has had this new policy "enforced" upon them. I could be wrong though.

I would be interested in hearing from anybody who was called and told to decide immediately or within the two week deadline.

Like many policies in many places, AADSAS is implementing the May 1st deadline/information exchange to give schools the option to enforce the policy if desired.

The mere presence of a policy is not a guarantee that the policy will be enforced in any or all cases.

according to some schools there was no enforcement unless the SCHOOL decides to do so. It varies at all schools, thus I am not suprised that we have not heard anything. To my knowledge- the 3 schools I called... all said they are not forcing this on the accepted students.

so this may or may not be related but I was just offered a position today, so to all those who start threads about X school vs Y school, I now completely understand your position. This kind of decision making kinda stinks

but the good news is that someone out there will be getting an offer soon

University of Iowa, which was in my top 3 of schools, probably top 2 actually, which is what made the decision kinda hard.... that and the 24 hour limit

What school did you give up a spot at?

iowa, held on to the maryland spot

did anyone figure out which schools are enforcing it and which ones are not?
my guess is that most of schools are not doing it
