A few quick questions:

1. Is the essay always the same each year? If so, what is the exact topic and specifications?

2. I had my premedical com write a composite letter from 3 professors... but I'm now working for a dentist. Can I have the dentist submit another LOR to AADSAS after I send in my application?? (I just started working there and I'd like to wait a few months before asking for a LOR). And in that case, if I ask the dentist to submit a letter in July, where should it be sent? To AADSAS or to each school???????

3. If I submit AADSAS June 1st, what is the latest I can take my DAT and still be competitive?

Thanks 😛

1) It sounds funny, but I don't think I ever read an actual topic for the essay. All I remember seeing on the AADSAS app was that the essay can not be more than 1,000 words. It is my understanding that the essay should explain why you want to be a dentist. If would start the essay RIGHT NOW, it will take you alot longer than you think!

2) You can submit as many LORs to AADSAS as you want. Just because you can, does not mean it is a good idea. AADSAS will lose/delay/missend anything you send them. If you dentist does not mind, I would ask him to send the LORs to each school you sent your application.

3) There are many different opions on when to take the DAT. The biggest advantage to taking it early is that you have the ability to retake it if you do not do as well as you would have liked. I suggest you take it as soon as possible, but not too soon that you are unprepared for the exam.

good advice...

just one more thing: If the dentist wants to send the LOR directly to AADSAS, can this be done anytime.... i.e. in July or August, even if I've already completed my application with AADSAS?? Or does it have to be at the same time I send my application?

I have heard that AADSAS is changing how they process applications. I would call them to find out.

The application sevice AADSAS doesn't care about whether you have DAT score and have enough three LORs as a package as it sends out to schools. You could send these two things directly to schools. Later, if you submit a LOR to AADSAS, it still sends it separately to school for you (you could keep track it on the INFOSOURCE). However, I recommand to send to both places for only your critical schools.
