anyone going to this in February? The thing is i've been told its mainly only for attendings/residents. but, some say its ok to go to the reception that they are having for the residents on that friday.

do you all think students should go to this event, even though htere isnt a 'student' workshop thing set up? I guess, would it be good just to go and meet attendings and residents

THanks

Some guys from my school did presentations at the AAEM in Florida this past year -- they had a great time. I've been to a regional SAEM without any student forums, and enjoyed it.

If you're in SoCal, and can get time off, it wouldn't hurt to check it out -- get your feet wet with research conferences... see if you like that type of thing... unless you already know that you're bored to death by research... then it might not be such a great idea... 😀

I'm actually doing away rotations at UCSD at that time and am toying with the idea of checking it out one day since it's free... probably not, but maybe...

I'm probably going since it's relatively nearby. It'll be my first time at the AAEM conference, but since there's no conference fee for members, I figure what the hell. I've been to the ACEP Scientific Assembly twice, though.

Students are definitely welcome at the AAEM Scientific Assembly.
The conference is free to all paid AAEM members, so if you are currently taking the free trial year for students, you'll need to upgrade your membership to a paid $20 student member or $50 w/ subscription to Journal of Emergency Medicine.

The conference looks like it will be very interesting and educational. Check out www.aaem.org mainpage and click on the "preliminary program" to see all the speakers and their talks.

We're very excited about the resident track we've put together. We have Peter Rosen talking about "The Difficult Patient", Bob McNamara giving his "History of Current State of EM" talk, and perhaps the highlight of the conference we have a panel discussion on "The Ideal Practice Environment in EM" moderated by Peter Rosen. The panelists include the CEOs of TeamHealth, EMP, the ACEP President, the SAEM President, and the past AAEM President. Also, AAEM/RES members will have free admission to the In-Service review JAM session.

We'll also be having a party at the Hard Rock Cafe on the beach in La Jolla near the hotel...a few miles from San Diego.

If you have any questions about the conference, feel free to email me at [email protected]

I certainly hope I'll be able to go again this year!!! The program looks really good and we did have a great time in Miami 😀

hey since there isnt a 'formal' party or anything for us med students, perhaps all of us SDNers/med students should meet up or something if we plan on going to the resident party....

perhaps even do a little pre-gaming.

I'm somewhat serious, hit me up if you are too! 👍

I'M GOING!!!! 😀 I'd love to plan something for us to get together. I'm not sure how much time I'll be able to get off, but let's try to do it.

If you guys are extremely bored or extremely unsure of what to do/where to go, ATC2MD has my phone#. I'll be doing Rads at UCSD around that time.

Well, it looks like I won't be going after all. Have fun all...

This friday the 21st is the deadline for advanced registration for the AAEM Scientific Assembly. Who out there has plans of going? Are there any students or residents planning on gettting together?

I am heading out there looking to get my feet wet in research, to make some contacts for residency, as well as, give surfing another try. I have taken a beating in previous attempts. 🙁

Right now, Im trying to find a cheap hotel in the area to stay. Anyone from SoCal have any ideas?

I'd start looking towards the medical center campus near Hillcrest or Hotel Circle... it's a maybe 15 minutes drive (assuming weekend traffic) from La Jolla. And they're right on the freeway, so it'll be easier to not be lost. If you want to stay by the beach, try Pacific Beach or Del Mar/Solano Beach a bit north of La Jolla. Most of the stuff in La Jolla is overpriced although you still might find some decent prices...

right now it's 60s in the day, drops to maybe the 40s at night... it can only get better by Feb. 😀

Just wanted to bump this thread back up and ask if there were any other students planning on being there? Anyone planning on getting together?

Alrighty guys, the word is final - we leave wednesday morning. WHEW! Let's get together if at ALL possible. I'll check my email tomorrow -

PS - EmeRGency: my husband went to mercyhurst (EM & La Jolla bound, too!) PM me and maybe we can set something up!?

Do we want to set a place/time?
