So...what is q? I don't even have a specific question, I just genuinely did not know what this question was asking me to evaluate.

the question basically was asking about the angle of refraction and the angle of reflection. we know that the angle of reflection is always equal to the agle of reflection, so they two angles (q,q c) equal each other. i think they just wrote the angle notation wrong. in addition when light travels from a of lower index to a higher index, it slows down thus bending towards the normal, making the angle of refraction smaller than the angle of incidence and thus q> a. hope that helps
