AAMC has officially made me hate them!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Red flag isn't nearly as bad as you think it is, they just change your classification when they're reviewing your application.

Yea, but I assume it doesn't look good to medical schools. What is everyones opinion?

they make that decision on what department u took that course. like that is some kind of bio course so if it says bio 453, they'll accept it.

So therefore, I took in Health Science department it won't be. Okay, therefore I won't add it.

Don't worry about it. I think I would classify that class as science.

I had a couple of red flags on my AMCAS app. Not a big deal...it does not look bad to med schools. The chances of you filling in all of your courses, and not making a single typo or mistake aren't as high as you might think.

I had 3 or 4 red flags on my app due to course changes of science to non science or vice versa and I still have multiple acceptances. I dont think it matters. They make the final decision based on the schools description of the class. My friend got psych of the body passed as a bio class. I think if you think its honestly gray put it as a science, worst case they change it.

Okay, I'll put it as science and review all others that are science. Thanks guys, I just think its rediculous after all its hard enough preparing and taking the MCAT, then going through the process. All I need is more stress over a stupid little something like that holding me back. Thanks
🙂

Thats the description albeit that it is brief and doesn't go into deep context.

Analysis of chronic and communicable diseases focusing on disease identification, prevention, and control. Topics include: history of disease, causative agents, treatment modalities and practices, current research, and the relationship o

yeah its not a red flag in the sense you are thinking (the way a drug conviction or plagiarism would be a red flag) but rather an administrative thing. it just means they'll review it and send corrections back to you. its not something med schools care about.

i was able to get psychopharm classes (in the psych dept) to count as BCPM as well as anatomy and physiology (which i guess is health sciences but I didn't know that category existed at the time). since it is a grey area, it will not be held against you should you categorize something a little differently than AMCAS would.

What about if the MAth class (Statistics) is through the Business Administration department? It is listed as BUSAD 110. Is that still science GPA?

So is it safe to say that I should classify it as a science? Thats the overall feeling I am getting from you guys. Thanks

Yeah, it should count, my economics statistics class counted and it was listed as Economics 230. if you are unsure you should just add it, worst case is that they switch it.

I believe if you read the directions for filling out AMCAS carefully, they simply state that it is up to your discretion as to how you classify your courses. They suggest it be based on content rather than department. So I'm not quite sure where people are getting the impression that they calssify according to department or name.

I had no problem what-so-ever with the classifications I made regarding counting some engineering classes towards my BCPM (Biological Nano and Microtechnology as a Bio or Intro Thermodynamics as a Physics for example). Bottom line, you're a smart adult. Make your designations intelligently and with integrity and you will be fine. Best of :luck:
